Words with Family - Magnetic Scrabble Board

(scroll down for supplies and directions)

I'm so excited to share this project with you! ?This is my most favorite one to date. ?I love it because it looks nice in the home, promotes reading and spelling, it's not electronic, and the entire family can enjoy it together.

I was inspired by this one from Twice Remembered. ?I've made ones like that with vintage dictionary pages and they were fabulous. ?I waited and waited on the one to make for my house, because I wanted to have it in our main hallway. ?When I found this awesome round frame at Home Goods, the process began.

I wish I could tell you that this was a fast project, but it has many, many steps. ?I worked on this project over 6 months due to life, kids, weather, commitments, etc. ?I know you understand! ?It really could be done in a weekend. ?I think if I was making this to give or sell I would have worked faster too!

Supplies:

Frame
Spray adhesive
Fabric
Glue Gun
Scrabble Letters - I used our 50 year old family set. ?This is the set I played on as a child.
Rare Earth Magnets (100 small) - I purchased them from this Etsy site click here. ?Actual size: ?1/8" x 1/32"
Metal Sheet - I ordered mine from Home Depot?here. ?You should be able to purchase it in store.

Directions

1. ?Frame - I looked high and low and found this round frame at Home Goods. ?It had nice art work in it too. ?I carefully cut it out?in case?I want to use it for something else in the future.

2. ?Metal - I used metal cutters to cut my sheet of metal to fit the frame. ?Then I spray painted it with white primer. ?This just helps to dull the metal so it doesn't shine silver through the fabric.

3. ?Fabric - I used spray adhesive to attach the fabric to the metal. ?Make sure you're downwind of the spray glue. ?I'm speaking from experience. ?Then I just hot glued it into the frame. ?No one sees the back, so I didn't do anything fancy with it. ?If you're giving it as a gift, cover the back with brown kraft paper.

4. ?This is what it looks like now in my house. ?Picture #1 is the before and picture #4 is the after.

5. ?Use E6000 glue to attach your Rare Earth Magnets to the scrabble tiles.

Game?Directions
Use as many letters as you can!

No limit on the length of word. ?Go for a big one!

Don't remove someone else's word until it's time to clear the board.

Above all, have fun! ?Sometimes we do themes. ?Right now it's Thanksgiving. ?We've done Halloween, sports, school, knights, LEGOS... whatever we're into at the time. ?Most of the time we just walk by and add a new word if we have time.
_________

This would retail for around $100, so if you make it as a gift, don't underestimate the value of your work!
