Feeding a vegan toddler - blog*spot

Hello blog sphere, I hope everyone is enjoying this fantastic day!

Since my daughter has gone back into the work force after being a stay at home mom for 2 years, I have been given the oppurtunity to be the full time babysitter for my adorable granddaughter Evangeline. I thought it would be fun if I shared with you what a vegan toddler eats. I know many of you have been vegan for a very long time, but there still might be some that are new to veganism and are planning a family or just switching a family over from vegetarian to veganism.

I was not a vegan when I had my two wonderful daughters. I didn't even know what a vegan was until 12 years ago. There wasn't alot of information out there about veganism and most people that knew about it was, either vegans or?uneducated about the way of eating and against it.

Some people made other vegans look bad like the poor family that fed their baby nothing but apple juice and baby formula, unfortunately the baby died and the parents were found negligent. But we have come a long way baby...No pun intended.

Vegan babies flourish and are some of the most energetic, bright and healthy babies in our society today! We do not have to worry about obesity, or that our children will contract botulism or e-coli.

With proper knowledge and an open mind, I think parents today are wise to choose a vegan eating plan for their babies.

So, what does a vegan toddler eat??

My granddaughter is 20 months old and she eats all the time. She is like a tiny vacuum, sucking up carrots and grapes, watermelon by the plateful and spinach like you wouldn't believe. She loves a good vegan burger with potato salad and adores Chinese food! Her favorite fruit would have to be oranges and tangerines, followed closely by nectarines and watermelon. She eats alot of raw foods for snacks and breakfasts, plus she loves a cucumber dipped in her favorite ranch dressing. Look out if you have a tomato, she will climb all over you to get it!

Evie is mugging for the camera! She thought this face was terribly funny and has made it for most of the day!

For breakfast Evie likes to eat oatmeal alot! She also is totally into breakfast smoothies, a little ice, some fresh or frozen fruit, ground flax seed, spinach?and some fresh OJ whizzed around in the ninja, and she is thrilled and does her happy dance! She has the cutest fruit smoothie?mustache ever!

?This is a typical breakfast for my vegan toddler. Mushrooms, grape tomatoes and spinach mixed with some extra firm tofu and a sprinkle of nooch. I call this her no egg white scramble. I made a quick fruit salad using mango, nectarine, an orange supremed, and black grapes that I cut into eighths. Whole grain vegan toast and some smart balance. She drank organic?rice milk for her beverage.

Here is Mushu after his non vegan breakfast. He was pretty psyched about it. It doesn't look like it.....but he was..

I will continue with feeding a vegan toddler with a menu plan for those of you just starting out as vegans or for those of you that are stuck in a food rut.

Disclaimer: No chickens were harmed in the making of this breakfast. I use only organic produce when feeding my granddaughter, save the margarine as it is not available where we live. My tofu is also organic.
